EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, SUPPORT, LOVE
Swaá—pronounced 'sway'—is a California native who now calls Cypress, TX, in the HTX area, home. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is certified as a Birth Doula by DONA. Committed to continuing education, Swaá aims to enhance her skills to better support your unique needs.
Beyond supporting clients, Swaá can often be found in the kitchen with her 3-year-old daughter and sous chef, Seven. Their joy revolves around baking, savoring meals, grocery shopping, family time, church community, and exploring the world together.
Swaá's journey into birth work began during undergrad, where she researched infant and maternal mortality rates in the US. Disturbed by the disparities, especially for Black women, she felt a calling to make a difference. The revelation of becoming a doula followed, redirecting her path with purpose.
Initially drawn to home and birthing center deliveries, Swaá's focus expanded to encompass hospital births, recognizing the essential need for education, advocacy, and support. Under the guidance of a remarkable mentor, a Licensed Midwife with over two decades of birth-work experience, Swaá has served over 40 families and actively participated in the Healthy Start Program, contributing to underserved communities since May 2022.
Swaá upholds a simple philosophy: supporting YOUR birth as YOU envision it. Her approach is defined by patience, calmness, attentiveness, and love—all seen through a holistic lens that considers nutrition, physical well-being, and mental health. Collaborating seamlessly with birth partners and medical staff, Swaá fosters a supportive team environment. Every pregnancy, whether the first or fourth, represents a rebirth for all involved. Swaá's ultimate goal is for every family to feel not only supported but also prepared and loved during this vulnerable time. If there's ever anything beyond her scope, she ensures to provide tailored resources. Swaá is honored to serve her families and feels blessed to witness the success of many births.
A birth doula is a trained and supportive companion who provides emotional, physical, and informational assistance to individuals and families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Doulas, distinct from medical professionals, do not offer medical care but specialize in delivering comfort, guidance, and advocacy to enhance the birthing experience. A doula can begin services for a client at any point in pregnancy. It's best to choose a doula early to build a relationship, work on preventative measures, and also have a payment plan option. Doulas provide important and unique services to clients. Whether you choose a home birth, birthing center, unassisted birth, or hospital delivery, a doula's role is to empower and support you and your birth partners in achieving the birth experience you desire.
